Cine Las Americas is a film festival in Austin Texas that celebrates the stories of Latinx, American Indigenous, and IberoAmerican filmmakers & artists. In 2018, I was asked to work on the 22nd annual artwork. The festival was expanding into new territory and needed the season artwork to illustrate film, music, VR, and poetry.
I initially submitted something boring that I won’t bother sharing. But on the night after the boring submission, I had a dream where an abstract figure appeared holding a guitar, camera, and VR glasses. I woke up in the middle of the night, grabbed a sketchbook, and drew out the figure before it faded from memory. A very fast sketch that was later scanned and digitized into the final product. “CineArtista”, the figures genderless name, was born!
(Sometimes I wonder if accountants dream about spreadsheets and wake up with their days work already completed… or maybe that’s just a perk of being an artist)
It was quite an undertaking, but it was an honor to be a part of such a great festival. .
